friends and windows

I feel so blessed to have great friendships in my life right now. As you can tell from earlier posts, these friendships are fairly new. So, I feel that I must capture in print the sweet gift that my new friends gave me last weekend.

So, last Friday, I sent Robert and Adam to the burbs while I had a slumber party for my girlfriends. It was the first one ever, so I wasn't sure how many friends would come. 8 had RSVP'd. But little by little, things came up, husbands couldn't watch the kids, people got sick... So, I was a bit discouraged, but still hopeful that we would enjoy a movie night. Robert had brought home the big screen from church and set up the projector. So we were prepared to watch Mr. Darcy and Ms. Elizabeth Bennett on an eight foot screen!

After a few friends arrived, we started the movie. I was the only veteran Pride and Prejudice fan, so I had a lot of explaining to do in the first few hours. During one conversation, we were talking about the architecture of the houses and how beautiful they were. I mentioned that I had saved my old windows from my 90 year old kitchen when we had the windows replaced. I asked them if they had any ideas of how to decorate the old windows to use as artwork in my house. One friend asked me to pause the movie (and I thought she had to use the restroom)...she came back holding two of my old windows that all of my friends had decorated together!! For my birthday, a few of them (with the help of my husband) had remembered that I wanted to complete that project, so they collaborated and gave it to me as a birthday gift.

I was so surprised, and felt so loved by such great friends.

Thanks friends! It means more to me than you will ever know.

Birthday

Well, it's official. I'm a thirty-somethinger! I think it's gonna be great! My birthday was sweet and special. First, Robert and Adam serenaded me in bed with a loud and off-key rendition of Happy Birthday. Then they served me cinnamon rolls and Starbuck's coffee (reserved only for special occasions.) Adam then led me on a treasure hunt to find all of my birthday presents. We played "hot" and "cold" until I found about five books that Robert had ordered from my amazon.com wish list. I can't wait to read them! Something about the nesting phase that has made me book crazy for mothering books!

I have to say that the sweetest gift, that brought tears to my eyes, was about mid-morning when Adam bounded into the living room and yelled "I know mommy, let's watch GILMORE GIRLS!!" This is obviously a "mommy-show," not an "Adam-show" as he calls them. And most times, when I am watching GG's, he whines to watch an "Adam-show." This little gift was clearly his way of thinking of me on my special day. We snuggled on the couch and watched about ten minutes of GG's before he got distracted and ran off to play. Short, sweet, and it made my day!

The rest of my day was spent planting two flats of impatiens in my yard while listening to my ipod, and then spending time with my sister and Robert's family at the Cooper-Young Art Auction, where the entire neighborhood came out for a great time!

Only four more days until the Pride and Prejudice slumber party!

Nesting

I don't know much about this phenomenon. But I have definitely hit the nesting stage of pregnancy. Since I've been here before, and know what the last few months of pregnancy are like, I am doing my darnedest to get all of my projects done while I have the energy. I'm trying not to drive myself (or my husband) crazy, but I feel like the clock is ticking! It is so weird.

I think I am 27 or 28 weeks pregnant (I'm not watching the calendar as obsessively as I did the first time around). So, I still have a ways to go. But, when I look at pictures of my pregnant self the first time around, I know that I am just barely getting to that uncomfortable stage. The more I can do now, the better it will be for everyone!

So, honey, if you read this, thank you for being patient with me and helping me so much!

Slumber Party

When is the last time you've been to a slumber party? Other than crashing at friends homes in college, I think the last slumber party I went to was in eighth grade after the eighth grade dance. Well, I've decided to throw myself and my friends a slumber party to celebrate my 30th birthday! After reading the blog posts I wrote nearly two years ago, I can see how many great friends God has given me. I was SO lonely during the first year here. And now, I can honestly say that I have more girlfriends and have more fun than ever as an adult. The 20's were great, and I will always love that we spent six years in the Bay Area, traveled to many great places in the world, and started a career. But I am really looking forward to my 30's. And what a better way to start the new decade than with close friends and the five hour version of Pride and Prejudice!

Back to the Blog

Wow! When I look back and read the 27 posts that I've blogged, it seems like a lifetime ago. I guess life got a bit hectic in August 2006, and I just dropped out of the blogosphere! I can't possibly recap the last year and a half, so I won't. But I've been inspired by a few moms who are using their blogs to keep record of the unique and fun aspects of their families. Since I'm not good at journaling or writing stories in the baby books, I thought I'd give this a try. Although I have a ton of scrapbooking tools and supplies, I never seem to have the time to cut and paste the cutesy pages. Hopefully, this will allow me to scrapbook our life in an easier way!
